・・・・ Kelly Smith, of Vancouver Canada, set a wheelchair record in 1:32:57 (3:56 per mile), breaking the 1998 record of 1:47:34 set by Bong-Ho Lee. ・・・・

・・・・ It wasn't a good day for the wheelchair athletes as two were involved in crashes.
Hilo's Ron Amundson hit a traffic cone which the wind had blown over and crashed, knocking him out the race around the five-mile mark. Japan's Mamo-chan wasn't as fortunate as a tour van driver pulled in front of him around the 12-mile mark and they crashed. Mamo-chan, whose chair was demolished, was taken to the hospital but both he and Amundson were at the awards ceremony later in the afternoon.
Maui's wheelchair athlete, Neal Snarr, was all smiles after his third place finish as he wheeled to 2:27:25 (5:37) effort, shaving 14 minutes off last year's time.
"The wind was something else but I'm ecstatic with my time," Snarr said. "Going down Front Street was special with all the people urging you on; I knew I was home free then."
Kona's Randy Caddell finished second in the four-chair field and turned in a 2:00:34 (4:36) while Japan's Gori Mostuke was fourth in 2:57:11 (6:45).
